Co-sleeping Mama

I laid in bed the other night with my darling daughter snuggled next to me, we were chatting and laughing and I thought how much I loved these moments with her.

Ususally of course we don't sit in bed chatting and laughing but Dom wasn't feeling well so we went up earlier than usual to let him have an early night... even if it was on the sofa! Who has the patience to deal with a snoring husband... not me!!

As it got later we snuggled down to go to sleep and I felt her little hand stroke my face in the darkness and she kissed my forehead. "Good night mummy" came her little voice, and my heart felt as though it might just burst!!

I laid in the darkness listening to her breathing begin to slow and I knew she was drifting off. I began to wonder how anyone could not love co-sleeping!

Obviously we don't co-sleep all the time, sometimes she will sneak into our room in the early hours of the morning and snuggle in with us to go back to sleep, but on the odd occasion and since she's been a little poorly lately she has been asking to sleep in our bed. I don't really mind it so we let her lay in the middle and we all sleep soundly... (usually!)

I definitely have had those nights though where some time between falling asleep and the morning my daughter turns in to a leg squirming wiggly starfish type creature! Don't get me wrong, it's not always the cute instagram picture I may post!!  I think the super king bed was for sure a good buy!

I know co-sleeping is definitely a love/hate topic, but I have to say for me it's for sure a love, and I will 100% miss these days when she no longer wants to crawl in to our bed and hold my hand to fall back to sleep!

Big Girl Bed!

So it's been around 2 months since we decided to say goodbye to Skye's cot and get her a big girl bed!

She was just over 19 months when we decided to make the transition, and I decided it was time as she hadn't been sleeping well at all in her cot for a few weeks, but if she came in to our bed she slept like a log!

She likes to spread out when she's asleep and I don't think her cot was giving her enough room and she would wake herself banging into the sides. I must admit I hadn't really looked into how to make the transition or the best way to go about it, we just decided to go for it!

We had gone in to Ikea a few weeks before and saw this gorgeous little bed - exactly what I had been thinking about! It had also been reduced! BARGAIN!! - This bed is perfect as it still has fairly wide sides and a small gap for her to climb in and out, the sides are perfect as they would stop her from rolling out should she ever get to close to the edge! It is also a lot wider than her cot which gives her plenty of space for stretching out in her sleep! One other thing I loved about it, is that it isn't very high so she can easily climb in and out of it herself, which she loves! It is also adjustable so you can make it longer for her as she grows!

Once we had dismantled her cot and built her new bed, we brought her upstairs to see it! She was so excited! Then when it came to bed time she couldn't wait to climb in and snuggle down! I did notice however once she was asleep that as the bed was a lot wider than her cot there was quite a gap between her pillow and each side, so I just rolled up two of her baby blankets to act as little bumpers just to stop her hurting herself should she end up in the corners!!

So after her first night we were all much happier!! She slept the whole night!!

She still loves her big girl bed and I have to say it is the best decision we ever made!
